Our team-building event from the end of 2009 was held at a nearby go-kart track. We had 8.5 hp 200cc Honda Go-karts. 16 members of the MobiAccess team have participated in the competition, which was divided in two races (Silver and Gold) based on the results of the qualifying sessions.

Since I had won the Gold race, I will summarize here some technical advices which made me the fastest on the track:

  • Always take the outer arc before you reach a corner!
  • Before sharp corners step off the gas a little bit!
  • For even sharper corners tend to brake, but when you are already turning the wheel, do not brake any longer, otherwise the rear of the go-kart will get in front of you!
  • On the inner arc of the corner aim the column or the tire-wall and hope to find the perfect racing line!
  • When you reach the middle of the bend you can already push the gas and let the go-kart drift out again to the outer track-line! The machine must be detained of slipping too much by counter-turning the wheel, otherwise it would slow down too much.
  • If you almost touch the tire-wall on the external arc of the track, you can be sure that you had a good turn.
  • In a corner lie along the opposite direction, as you would do it on a motorcycle! (The go-kart won’t turn upside-down anyway and the outer wheels, which are holding you on the arc, will get better adherence…) This method does not help in complex curve-combinations and is not a recommended practice on public roads neither :)

Of course even if you comply with all these advices doesn’t make certain that you will be able to defeat the time of Gabor Talmacsi (32,765s), but the point is to enjoy yourself while racing!
